(TBT-00’s) UGK -“Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You)” Ft. OutKast

Yesterday (July 19), Chinara Butler, the wife of the late, great Pimp C, wasn’t pleased with Young Thug mentioning her husband’s name in Chance The Rapper’s “Big B’s.”

“Pimp C, I ain’t doing that, I’ma f**k her on the sheets, yeah/And all my n****s loyal like Bun B, hold on,” Thugger raps.

Was the bars disrespectful?  I don’t think so, but regardless, this is the song Young Thug referenced.

In 2007, UGK released “Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You),” from their self-titled album, Underground Kingz.  Honestly, I was hotter than hell’s flame at this release because it was a remake of Project Pat’s “Choose U,” which was from his third album, Layin’ da Smack Down.  My anger came from my admiration for Pat’s version, however, I must admit Bun B, Pimp C, Andre’ 3000, and Big Boi elevated the do-over to higher heights.

“My b***h a choosy lover, never f**k without a rubber/Never in the sheets, like it on top of the cover,” the late-Bulter rapped.

Produced by DJ Paul and Juicy J, the Willie Hutch-sample was promoted by a timeless video.  Plot centered around Andre’s (fictional) wedding whom finds himself reluctant near wedding time.  However, he eventually follow through.

3 Stax rapped a memorable verse a cappella, however it initially didn’t make sense to Big Boi.

“I was like, “Damn, you gon’ keep the beat out the whole damn time like that,”  Big Boi asked.

“They gon’ l let him keep the beat out?  How they gone God D**n play this s*t in the club?”

Apparently, it worked!  The track would earned them a Grammy nominee and winner of the BET’s Video of the Year.

UGK’s “Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You)” featuring OutKast is the Old School Video of the Week. #TBT
