Meek Mill In Jail Longer Than Expected

1-MeekMill_01-20-2012Rick Ross’s Maybach Music imprint has shown cracks in the armor recently. And Meek Mill’s continued imprisonment certainly isn’t helping that. In early August, it was reported that Meek would have to serve between 3 and 6 months in a county jail for violating his parole. Rick Ross has gone on record stating that he expected Meek’s jail time to last only a few weeks. However, we are likely going to go far past that point, as Meek Mill’s probation hearing is scheduled for September. The judge assigned to Meek Mill’s case, Genece Brinkley, has denied an emergency court date petition filed by Meek’s lawyers. Brinkley stated that the case’s hearing would go on as planned, in September.

Christopher Warren, Meek’s lawyer, said that he hasn’t heard from legal authorities as to why his client’s jailing was constitutional. Warren plans to file a writ of mandamus along with fellow Meek attorney Dennis Cogan in order to get a higher court to compel the emergency hearing to take place at an earlier date. Both Warren and Cogan state that they believe Meek has done nothing to warrant the imprisonment, and that he has not violated his parole in any manner.

Although Meek Mill’s parole hearing is in September, those close to the situation say it is unlikely that he will be released until October at the earliest. He’s been ordered to take both anger management and parenting classes, and his attending those will likely be a condition of his release. A revitalized Meek Mill can help keep Maybach Music on the map after a less than stellar run of albums from label head Rick Ross. But right now, it seems that the team will likely have to wait a few months to begin their next run.
