The Notorious B.I.G. Would've Been a Great Rap CEO; Agree or Disagree?

By the turn of the 21st century, the rap game had seen it’s share of rappers launch their own imprint. Master P, Jay-Z, and Ludacris, just to name a few, were some of the guys to wear both hats. According to Gene Deal, Puff Daddy’s former bodyguard, The Notorious B.I.G.’s name was about to be added to the list before his untimely death.

During a VladTV interview, Big Gene tells Vlad that Biggie was preparing to part ways from Bad Boy to start his own label. The news came to light when Deal jokingly accused Biggie of being broke. Though Big didn’t deny it, he confessed “I’m about to get this money.” Later adding, “look at this,” referencing a lucrative contract.

According to the former bodyguard, the deal, which included Charlie Baltimore, Cam’Ron, Lil Cease, Lil Kim, Junior M.A.F.I.A., Tracy Lee, and The Commission, was worth $62 Million.

Looking at the list, it looks like Biggie was on to something. It was no secret that he had a significant amount of impact on Lil Cease, Lil Kim, and the rest of Junior M.A.F.I.A. Reportedly, it was Big that convince Cease and Kim to become rappers. With that being said, it appeared that he had an eye for talent.

Also, Big was a great promoter. He was always mentioning the artists he was associated with such as the aforementioned. In addition to, R&B group, 112.

Now and days, Hip Hop labels are popping up like Dollar Generals. Some are founded by rappers with experience in the music game, some simply have been watching too much Empire. In other words, they’ve found success in the booth, but struggled at the desk.

However, from my vantage point, I think Biggie had the natural instincts to be a great rapper/CEO.
