G-Unit’s ‘Beg for Mercy’; Classic!, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

I think we all would agree that 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is a classic. However, would you say the same about G-Unit’s ‘Beg For Mercy’? Let’s talk about it.

Released on November 14, 2003, Beg for Mercy had a significant amount of buzz built up due to Get Rich or Die Tryin’ being released 9 months prior. They capitalize off of it with “Stunt 101,” the album’s lead single.

Cash Money Records created a lane for stunting. So, it made sense for G-Unit to create a song of that same sort. However, they did not forget about the ladies in the Joe assisted, “Wanna Get To Know You” and “Smile.”

They would impressed with the 2Pac’s “Me and My Girlfriend”- influenced, “My Buddy!”

Some of the game’s biggest producers, such as Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, and No I.D. lend a hand on the production. Sha Money XL, G-Unit’s in-house producer, assisted as well.

Beg for Mercy was a well received. The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200, eventually peaking at number 2. It was certified double platinum.

Personally, I thought Fif, Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, and an incarcerated Tony Yayo collectively put together a good body of work. But is it a classic, though?
