Juvenile’s ‘Project English’; Classic!, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

When you talk about Juvenile, likely 400 Degreez is the first thing that comes to mind. Perhaps, if you’re a Louisiana-native, the impact he had on Bounce music resonates first. But what about Project English, his fourth album? Let’s chop it up.

In 2001, Juve released Project English. At the time, there were rumors circulating that he wanted to leave his long-time label Cash Money. However, the rumors were temporarily put to rest due to what he said on “Set It Off,” the album’s lead single.

“Nile’s in this b****, get right. F*** what you heard on the street, it’s CMR for life.”

“Set It Off” made it rounds through out the dancefloor but nothing like, “Mamma Got Ass.” It has become the Mother and Daughter anthem!

Eventually, it was confirmed that Juve indeed wanted to part ways with CMR and soon did. But despite the turmoil, Project English achieved some success, reaching number 2 on the Billboard 200 and US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album was certified Gold.

Was Project English good but not great? Or was it great but didn’t peak out due to Juve’s unhappiness? Let us know via polls…
