2 Chainz's 'B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time'; Classic, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

By the early-10s, there were many Atlanta artists competing for rap mayor of the A.T.L. T.I., Jeezy, Gucci Mane, and Ludacris, among others, had stake claim in one way or the other. However, 2Chainz solo debut, Based On A T.R.U. Story, let his fellow Atlens know that they had to scribble his name onto the ballot. Not to be misleading, but that’s not the album I want to discuss. Lets chop it up about the re-election album, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time.

Released on September 2013, BOATS II: Me Time was the sequel to his debut. 2Chainz gave you the notion that he’s in it for the long-haul with the Pharrell Williams – produced, “Feds Watching.”

“Feds Watching” found much success on the charts, peaking at the number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100.

If there was a class in Trap rappers, 2Chainz is definitely upper class. He’s not taking penitentiary chances for a box Chevy sitting on 28s. He’s in it for the finer things in life. That’s evident in the Fergie featured, “Netflix.”

“She got it, I want it, I want it, she got it,” 2Chainz spits “Netflix.” “I’m dodging paparazzi, my outfit from Versace.”

“Used 2,” the second single, was produced by former Cash Money Records in-house producer Mannie Fresh. Chainz paid homage to Juvenile’s flow on his 1998 song, “Back That Azz Up.”

It’s apparent that 2Chainz was looking for broader appeal on this album with production from Pharrell Williams. In addition, getting assistance from Pop star, Fergie.

The album debuted at number 3 spot on the US Billboard 200.

Artist formerly known as Tity Boi took the world by storm with debut solo release, Based on a T.R.U. Story. Of course, when you’re doing a follow up behind a big album, the age-old question is can the artist do it again? Well, did he?
