We Should Accredit Luke for LA Artists Headlining Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show; Cosign or Nah?

A little over two years ago (September 26 2019), the NFL announce that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be headlining Super Bowl LIV halftime show, which was held in Miami Florida. Both are regarded among the most influential Latina artists in the world. But there was one problem: neither one were from the 305. Hip Hop legend, Uncle Luke had a problem — and a solution. He voiced both in his weekly column in the Miami New Times.

“Pitbull, AKA Mr. Worldwide, along with Flo Rida and Rick Ross should really be the headliners of this halftime show,” Luke wrote.

“J. Lo and Shakira should be Pitbull’s invited guests since he did songs with them. And Flo Rida should be inviting Trick Daddy, Trina, and other Miami superstars to share the spotlight.”

Mr. Campbell made a valid point. The previous year, Super Bowl LIII was held in Atlanta. Though Pop group, Maroon 5 was the headliner, they brought on Big Boi — an Atlanta native — as a guest appearance. In addition, they brought on Gladys Knight, also a Georgia native, to sing the national anthem.

Some people had pointed out the huge racial diversity in Miami — which includes a large Latino population — so J-Lo and Shakira makes sense. But for whomever felt that way, Uncle Luke had a rebuttal for them as well.

“On the NFL Network, league officials said the show is going to promote Latinx culture because Miami is all about Hispanic people,” Luke continued. “That’s a slap in the face to the African-American community, which includes a diverse mix of Bahamian, Jamaican, and Haitian people.”

Since Jay-Z and Roc Nation had began their partnership with the NFL, Luke held Jigga responsible as well.

Flashforward to Super Bowl LVI. The Super Bowl’s host city is Los Angeles. Dre is the headliner. Coincidentally, he’s a LA (Compton) native. Possibly, just possibly, could the pressure from Uncle Luke forced Jay-Z and the NFL to book a hometown Hip Hop artist? And if so, possibly, just possibly, should the Miami Godfather get accredited for making this happen?
